![]() ![]() I have very high hopes for this next album. Perhaps TLOP was used just as a means to try to make TIDAL blow up and the next album will be a more cohesive project. I read somewhere that songs were held off of TLOP for the next album. With reports that Kanye is already working on/planning on releasing an album this summer and considering the rushed release of TLOP, I could see this just a warm-up for what is to come. I do not know how this album will go down in Kanye’s history. I believe that now that a wider audience will have access, it’s popular will jump again. Now that the album is supposed to be released on non-TIDAL services on Friday, I expect there may be a second wave of reactions to the album. Think of all the publicity and news surrounded this album, yet there was only one place to listen to it. ![]() TIDAL was able increase its user base a great amount in only one year, especially in a market that is pretty much controlled by two mammoth streaming services (Spotify and Apple Music). I would keep Spotify at $9.99 rather than switch to TIDAL at $9.99, but that’s because of how embedded I am in Spotify already.Įven if Kanye West’s album did not perform as well as it could have if it had had a normal, wide release, this turned out to be a genius marketing move. For me, the quality Spotify gives you for its price is perfect (I have the student discount but feel the same way about the full price). However, I have seen online many people saying they are keeping their TIDAL subscriptions due to the large music selection and higher quality sound. I did not personally keep my TIDAL subscription as I am a loyal Spotify user. I believe that Kanye West, if the streaming numbers are true, probably contributed a lot to this number. TIDAL also released that they now have over 3 million paid subscribers across the globe, 2.5 million more than they had when TIDAL first opened in the US on Maexactly one year ago. I opted to sign up for the TIDAL free trial, solely because I wanted to listen to Kanye’s album. After that was released, of course, it became available online illegally via websites such as PirateBay. That was the only music/streaming service that had the album. When this album was first released the only way that you could listen to it was through TIDAL. That says something about the influence that Kanye West has. ![]() 250 million streams in 10 days is extremely impressive, especially considering the debacle of the release. Regardless, for the purpose of discussion, let us assume those numbers are true. If I listen to an album with 10 songs one time on TIDAL, does that count as 10 streams or 1 stream? I personally have some doubts, but I do not know exactly how the streams are counted. Many people find this very hard to believe considering the botched release, the fact that TLOP was supposed to be a TIDAL exclusive, and the disproportionately small user base. On March 30th, TIDAL released the streaming numbers for Kanye West’s most recent album The Life of Pablo. According to them, in the first 10 days of availability, TLOP racked up over 250 million streams. Kanye West at his recent Yeezy Season 3 event. ![]()
